Gavin Lawrence, better known as G LAW, hails from the sunshine city of Portmore. Growing up surrounded by music, his passion for writing music emerged around age twelve. His father was in a band and he, in quite a few choirs and bands also.

G LAW began his music pursuit merely for the love of it. He’s drawn to the reggae and dancehall genres, however, when asked what type of artist he was, he responded with “I’m just an artist” which shows that he doesn’t put himself in a box. He aims to reach international audiences with his distinct melody and upbeat sound. Inspired by the likes of Buju Banton, J Cole, Damian Jr Gong Marley, and Vybz Kartel, G LAW continues to make bangers that have a contemporary flow while paying homage to the styles of the past.

Even though he enjoys having creative control over his music, the hardest task for him is marketing. G LAW owns and operates ‘ZSA Music‘ with Alxzsa. As an independent artist, the road can be rough, but he never thinks about giving up. He stays focused by acknowledging that time is precious and sticking to his vision for himself and label.

His moniker came about when he signed his first official document i.e. ‘G’ from ‘Gavin’ and ‘LAW’ from ‘Lawrence’. He is very involved in the production of his music. As a part of the creative process, G LAW also freestyles and writes while in the studio. To get his desired sound, he takes the help of very talented engineers. He is currently collaborating with Magic Records in Canada. “Pon a Level“, to date, is one of his biggest productions.

While most of his time is spent in the studio recording, on a relaxed day, you can find G LAW reading or inhaling and exhaling marijuana. When he’s not making music he’s looking for ways to create multiple streams of income. He wants the youth of Jamaica to change their mentality. He would like to see more of them becoming interested in seeking knowledge so they can exceed their limitations and show them that there is money to be made if you are smart about it.
